Dragon's Tail Pothos
Epipremnum Pinnatum 'Dragons Tail'
The Dragon Tail, native to forests in the Solomon Islands, is an indoor vining plant that when matured can be a very large and eye-catching statement plant. You will not regret adding one to your collection or indoor space! It gets its name from the forked fenestrations of its leaves that resemble a dragon's tail. Juvenile plants bear glossy, dark green foliage that start off oval almost spear-like in shape and as new leaves emerge as the plant matures the adult leaves start to split and thicken to a leathery forked shape that can grow up to sizes of 200-500mm long. A mature adult plant can grow over 1 metre tall and if grown in the right conditions have been known to grow up trees to heights of over 4m.
Position:
Dragon Tails thrive in a warm and well-lit position with abundant indirect light or stippled light, within a few metres of a window is best. Be careful not to expose the leaves to direct sunlight which can dry out the vines and cause crisping of leaf edges.
Water:
Keep to a regular watering routine, during the warmer months you want to keep the soil moist but not too wet. To monitor this, dip your finger into the top 5 cm of the soil. If it feels wet,or there is still soil stuck to your finger when you pull it out of the soil, let it dry out for longer. Over watering can lead to fungal issues or root rot.
Feed:
Feed monthly during the spring and summer with a water-soluble plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength - Use our organic seaweed fertilizer for best results.
Humidity:
Normal room humidity is fine however, we recommend you use a humidity tray filled with pebbles or leca balls and half-filled with water, with your plant pot placed on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant but make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist.
Soil:
Dragon Tails prefer a well drained soil mix - Use our Pothos soil mix for best results.
