Alocasia Amazonica Polly
Otherwise known as the ‘African Mask Plant’ named after its home and origin and also commonly known as Alocasia ‘Polly, when it comes to foliage and striking looks the ‘Amazonica’ cannot be beat. If you're looking for a plant that gives off a true jungle vibe then this is the plant for you. It is a recognisably geometric, robust rhizomatous evergreen perennial. Its foliage is glossy with narrowly arrow-shaped leaves that are wavy edged and can grow to incredible lengths of over 60cm. Its creamy white mid ribs and deep 3d veining, between its seemingly delicate glossy foliage is what makes it stand out. Colours vary with deep greens, browns, and reds with beautiful hazes of silver that can appear on the tops of the leaves when grown in optimal conditions.
When grown in preferred conditions and given proper care, this hybrid Alocasia will grace your indoors with its lush growth and distinctly colored leaves that all will enjoy for years to come.
Position:
Amazonicas love bright, well lit areas but avoid direct sunlight! Warmth is this beauty’s best friend. Keep clear of strong breezes which can cause tears and browning on leaf edges.
Water:
Keep the plant lightly misted to keep the top soil moist between watering. For strong stem growth it should be planted in a well draining soil mix and given a good soak roughly once a week in summer months and once every two weeks in winter months.
Feed:
Monthly during the spring and summer with a water-soluble plant food such as seaweed and/or fishbone.
