Peace Lily Domino
Spathiphyllum Wallisii Domino
Spathiphyllum 'Domino' is an evergreen perennial cultivar from the arum family, Araceae. It is a variegated form of the Common Peace Lily, with striking white and cream variegations that change over time. This gorgeous lily species produces lance-shaped, shiny, green foliage and creamy-yellow and white variegated leaves and white flowering spathes. Flowers measure approximately 15cm in length and range from pure white to cream to green-tinged. They flower all year as long as there is an adequate light source nearby. This is a perfectly suited and strikingly beautiful plant that will accent almost any interior space and has an added bonus of being a natural air purifier. It absorbs certain contaminants from the air and leaves a lovely faint scent. Due to its variegation it is best to position in a semi shaded brightly lit spot as it requires more light then non variegated variants in order to photosynthesise.
Position:
Best in moderate to bright light and average humidity. Avoid direct sunlight as they will burn. Average temperatures are fine but they don’t like cold or draughty spots. Spathiphyllum will tolerate low light, but need some brightness from a window or a lamp. Without this they are unlikely to bloom much, if at all.
Water:
Keep the soil evenly moist, not wet! Water thoroughly when the soil just becomes dry but do not let the plant sit in water. Alternatively, you can use a humidity tray, half-filled with water, then place your plant pot on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant. Make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/Leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist. Avoid allowing the plant to wilt, although Spathiphyllum will recover amazingly from wilting very badly, you’re likely to see a lot of yellow leaves as a consequence if it happens too often.
Feed:
Feed during the growing season with pure organic seaweed fertiliser to half the recommended strength. Do not feed during the winter months at all, as these aren’t hungry plants and you could risk damage to its roots. Use our Organic seaweed fertiliser for best results.
Humidity
Normal room humidity is fine however, we recommend you can use a humidity tray, half-filled with water, then place your plant pot on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant. Make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/Leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist.
Soil:
Spathiphyllum thrive well in a loose, aerated mix with plenty of peat - Use our Spathiphyllum soil mix for best results.
