Syngonium Podophyllum White Butterfly
The White Butterfly Syngonium - also known as the ‘Arrowhead Vine’ - features mottled, arrow-shaped leaves resembling a butterfly and becoming whiter with age and size. It is native to parts of semi-tropical Central and South America. Because of this they don’t like the cold, but do grow well alongside other plants such as Aglaeonemas.
Position:
White Butterfly don’t like too much light. A moderate amount is best, away from north-facing windows. As they are a climbing plant, place a pole or solid structure for it to climb. Alternatively, let it grow downwards over the side of the pot, though the leaves will be bigger if it grows upwards.
Water:
Water every few days, allowing the soil to dry a little. Ensure the soil and pot are well draining to avoid root rot. To keep the foliage looking lush, mist the plant with water every week or so.
Feed:
Monthly during the spring and summer with a water-soluble plant food diluted to 1/4 the recommended strength.
Humidity
Normal room humidity is fine, but it prefers higher humidity if possible. We recommend you mist the leaves with water or our seaweed mist product daily to keep them lush.
Alternatively, you can use a humidity tray. Fill a plant pot tray with large pebbles, half-fill with water, then place your plant pot on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant. Make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist.
