Sweet Catalina Peace Lily
Spathiphyllum Wallisii Sweet Catalina
Spathiphyllum will tolerate low light, but need some brightness from a window or a lamp, without this they are unlikely to bloom much, if at all. They are very easy-care plants and will tolerate almost any lighting conditions except direct sun, and tend to bloom more the more light they receive.
If you love Peace lilies in the home as much as we do you will be smitten by this new distinctive variety called Spathiphyllum ‘Sweet Catalina’. It is native to South America and is characterised by broad, dark green foliage, with strong and rigid petioles. It is a low-maintenance indoor plant with attractive white flowers. It is the perfect bathroom and toilet plant as it purifies the air, loves moisture and gives off a beautifully sweet scent for all to be enjoyed.
Position:
Spathiphyllum will tolerate low light, but need some brightness from a window or a lamp, without this they are unlikely to bloom much, if at all. They are very easy-care plants and will tolerate almost any lighting conditions except direct sun, and tend to bloom more the more light they receive.
Water:
Keep the soil evenly moist, not wet! Water thoroughly when the soil just becomes dry but do not let the plant sit in water. Alternatively, you can use a humidity tray, half-filled with water, then place your plant pot on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant. Make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/Leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist. Avoid allowing the plant to wilt, although Spathiphyllum will recover amazingly from wilting very badly, you’re likely to see a lot of yellow leaves as a consequence if it happens too often.
Feed:
Feed during the growing season with pure organic seaweed fertiliser to half the recommended strength. Do not feed during the winter months at all, as these aren’t hungry plants and you could risk damage to its roots. Use our Organic seaweed fertiliser for best results.
Humidity
Normal room humidity is fine however, we recommend you can use a humidity tray, half-filled with water, then place your plant pot on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant. Make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/Leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist.
Soil:
Spathiphyllum thrive well in a loose, aerated mix with plenty of peat - Use our Spathiphyllum soil mix for best results.
