Mistletoe Cactus
Rhipsalis Baccifera or otherwise known as the ‘Mistletoe Cactus’ can be found in the tropical rainforests of Florida,Mexico and Brazil. In the wild it is known to grow epiphytically and can be found clinging to tree crotches, in branch nooks, and nestled in rock crevasses and is characterised by its pencil thin succulent stems that can grow over 2m in length. The thick skin of the stems do not produce thorns, but it does have almost imperceptible bumps on the surface of the plant. The mistletoe cactus is easy to grow and has very minimal needs. Aside from the attractive foliage, they also offer the added bonus of almost year-round blooms and fruit. It is the perfect home interior feature plant if you're looking for something that drapes beautifully and gives an elegant and minimal vibe.
Position:
Place in a brightly lit spot with stippled, indirect sunlight. It can handle short periods of time in the sun but prolonged exposure will cause burning on the foliage.
Water:
Water once the surface of the soil is dry during the growing season. Maintain slightly moist soil. Reduce watering in winter.
Feed:
Feed monthly during the spring and summer with a water-soluble plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength - Use our organic seaweed fertiliser for best results.
Humidity
Normal room humidity is fine however, we recommend you can use a humidity tray, half-filled with water, then place your plant pot on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant. Make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/Leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist.
Soil:
Rhipsalis like to be relatively dry and rely on air moisture when soil has dried out, therefore a fast draining and very aerated soil mix is recommended - use our succulent soil mix for best results.
