Monstera Minima (Large Leaf form)

Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma

From the ever-so-popular Monstera family comes the eye-catching Monstera ‘Minima’ Vine. Quickly becoming the "must have" indoor house plant. It is extremely easy to grow and can be grown as a climber. If you give it a stake or trellis to grow upward, you will enjoy larger leaves with larger unique splits. It is well known to collectors that there are two variants available in New Zealand. The (Large leaf form) has larger, Leathery looking leaves which tend to be less fenestrated but more evenly fenestrated with larger ‘Fingers’.

Position:

Monstera need lots of space. Put it in a statement-making spot in the living room, rather than in a tight corner or on a windowsill. Find a balance between sun and shade. If Monstera is given too much sun, the leaves will yellow. If it is left in the dark, the plant will exhibit something called negative phototropism where new leaves grow towards the dark rather than the light. It is a pretty clever trick: in the jungle, darkness signals the presence of a larger tree that the Monstera can climb up to reach sunlight. Since this is not possible in a living room, indirect sun is best.

Water:

Water Monstera moderately and evenly, about once a week in summer and once every two weeks in winter. Wait until the soil is fairly dry before watering again.

Feed:

Feed monthly during the spring and summer with a water-soluble plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength - Use our organic seaweed fertiliser for best results.

Humidity:

Normal room humidity is fine however, we recommend you use a humidity tray filled with pebbles or Leca balls and half-filled with water, with your plant pot placed on top. Top up the water if necessary when watering your plant but make sure the water level stays below the top of the pebbles/Leca balls so the plant roots can breathe. The humidity from the tray will keep the leaves lush and the roots moist.

Soil:

Monsteras prefer a well drained and aerated soil mix - Use our Monstera soil mix for best results.
